  • Oak experience the Blitz

Thu 20 Apr 2023 Oak Class

As part of an introduction to our World War 2 history topic this term, we (Oak class) visited the Blitz exhibition at Flambards Theme Park.

Among the re-creations of domestic rooms and shops of the period, there were the sights and sounds of a bomb-blasted house, the claustrophobic interior of an Anderson shelter and a reminder of the roles played by the brave men and women on the home-front  in the fire service, the ARP units and the morale-boosting NAAFI.

Also, we had the opportunity to explore the Victorian village and study the history-of-aviation exhibits. A great start to the term!

  • Seedling's Visit to Rosemoor Gardens

    Fri 17 Mar 2023 Mr L

Today, Seedling class enjoyed a delightful visit to Rosemoor Gardens.

We were warmly welcomed by Nikki, who led a workshop about plants. Also, we planted some radish seeds, which we brought back to school. Following the workshop, we went on a walk around the vegetable gardens, on the way passing through many of the ornamental gardens.

  • 'Sister Act'

    Thu 16 Mar 2023 Mr L

We were pleased to accept an invitation from St Joseph's to attend a dress rehearsal of its production of Sister Act in Launceston's town hall.

We were amazed, if unsurprised, at the standard of the performances of the actors. We would not consider it incredible that, in the future, some of the students might become professional singers, musicians and actors.

  • Songfest 2023

    Thu 16 Mar 2023

We were delighted once again to be able to take part in Songfest Cornwall.

Songfest is an annual festival of song, in which schools across Cornwall take part.

This year, we sang a selection of eight new songs from composer Rebecca Lawrence’s ‘Past and Present’, songs of history, each song depicting a particular historical era.

  • Spring Term 2023

    Mon 09 Jan 2023

Pupils in Oak class have started their swimming lessons at the Holsworthy Leisure Centre.

After-school clubs are once again in full swing, with activities ranging across the curriculum: computer games, book, scooter, fun maths and gardening clubs. As well as the after-school clubs, each day of the school week there is a range of lunchtime clubs: wellbeing, choir, football and netball.

At the end of last year, after the hiatus of the pandemic, members of the choir were delighted to be able to join with other songsters in the county and take part in 2022’s Song Fest.

The choir was also able to visit the village’s residential home and entertain the residents with a performance. The choir is looking forward to performing in the village hall at the end of the month.
