Phonics Support
Phonics forms the basis of learning to read and write and is therefore a huge priority in the early years. In reception we begin with teaching single sounds, focusing on letter formation and sound. We learn a new letter sound per day and recycle and revise them constantly. When reception stage are confident in all the first set of sounds, they will begin to 'blend' letters in a word. We begin with CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) such as d-o-g-, s-u-n-, etc.
They will bring home resources and flash cards etc to practice more at home.
As they progress, they will work on more complex sounds in set 2 and begin to read longer words and sentences.
We follow a programme called 'Read, Write inc.' It gives great results and pupils love the fun, visual and active lessons!
The website links here below are excellent for parents.. Have a look and watch the videos.
I will be providing some of these resources in their homework weekly.
