Reception home reading
In the early stages of reception, pupils will bring home a book to share with an adult, a picture book with no words to discuss orally and as they begin phonics sound lessons, a sound worksheet to practice with you.
Children are helped to select a suitable book by teachers about 3 times a week depending on how quickly they read them at home.
As they begin to learn more sounds and can blend short words, they will bring home "blending word books' These are booklets counting flashcards of short words with an image to help them.
They then progress to Red level Ditty books, Green level books and Purple by the end of the year.
All pupils have a Reading record booklet, we will write in the book they are bringing home and we ask that an adult signs it when they have completed a story session. Children get rewarded for reading at home so it's important to record it so we can count up their points.
