Surf's Up, Dudes!

We welcomed Jack and Rolo to school. Rolo and Jack are lifeguards with the RNLI.

At this time of the year, with summer peeping over the horizon, they visit local schools to tell pupils how to enjoy safely the beaches and coastal areas of our beautiful region.

Safe to swim between the red & yellow flags.

Jack and Rolo told us what do do if we were to get into difficulty when we are at the beach.

However, the aim of the lifeguards is to prevent people getting into trouble in the first place. They offer advice and guide people to the safe, patrolled areas of a beach.

Between the black & white flags - surfers & watercraft.

They told us about the equipment they use:

rescue tubes, rescue boards and water bikes.

A red flag means that it's unsafe to go into the water.

If an incident happens outside the hours during which the lifeguards are on patrol, we should dial 999 and alert the coastguard.
